Hermannstraße 16
This little art-space bar just opened, and already I’ve been to two rad shows there. The upstairs hosts the bar and a lounge booth, but descend the stairs to the cellar for the real action. It’s TINY, as in MAYBE you could squeeze 30 people down there, but little places like this is where you see all the best stuff anyway. Dancing together, bodies packed tightly and the sweat on you isn’t just your own. Hot.
Speed Show “Becoming, Not Being”
Saturday@Internet-Cafe Bordeaux
Curated by Denver artist Sterling Crispin, the speed show is ‘a gallery like opening situation for browser based internet art in a public cyber-cafe / internet-shop for one night’ and features art by some of my fave people like Mario Zoots, Ryder Ripps, Britta Thie and GG’s own Emilie Gervais. Be there.
Today @NBI
Real GG’s will be on this one. CREEP spinning at Shade, Inc. tonight! Fans of Lauren Dillard’s NYC party FIL†H will go crazy for her on-point mix of pop, R&B and the occasional slice of witchy darkness.
I DUE FORNI
Schoenhauser Allee 12
As much as I miss my beloved NYC pizza, I Due Forni is still my first stop when I gotta have some ‘za. Brick oven goodness and a hectic and fast-paced atmosphere make this more of a before-party stop than a quiet place to take a date, but if you’re in Prenzlaur Berg and you want to stuff your gut with some tasty cuts, this is the place to be.
Weserstr. 7
Absolutely charming bubble-tea cafe, with a wide selection of teas and a killer soundtrack. The perfect place to while away half an hour on a hot day.
Skalitzerstr. 68
When I need to feel closer to my art roots, Motto is my choice for inspiration. Beautiful wood shelves are lined with books and magazines focusing on every aspect of art you can imagine, from experimental filmmaking to graphic design (back issues? They’ve got those too!) It also contains some very rare limited-run artist publications.
Friday @Times
Before you do IF U FEEL IT, hit up TIMES to see the new band Crave. Made up of Elizabeth Skadden (Finally Punk) and Jonny (Jonny Teardrop) the young duo combines the hard-hitting throb of mid-80s industrial with the shrieks of no-wave and the modern aesthetic of the better parts of witch-house. It’s all pretty horny.
Friday @Chez Jacki
Weekend techno parties are a dime-a-dozen in Germany, so it’s always rad when we get sick stuff like this to alleviate the humdrum. Future bass and R&B all night!
Heidestr. 50
A traveling shop for high-style goths, Darklands is Germany’s #1 stop for dark fashion. If you need something black, well-draped and elegant, there’s no better place to drop your paycheck.
